Sounds create vibrations and vibrations are energy. Sounds can be used to transform energy and to clear blockages. This is why Buddhist monks use sound bowls, it’s an effective way to clear energy.

Different sounds vibrate in different organs and parts of the body due to the structure of the cells. In Taoist theory this corresponds with the Five Elements and the associated emotions and colours. Sounds can be used in conjunction with smiling and focus to transform toxic emotions or memories that have become stuck in our bodies.

Cultivating Virtuous & Healing Energy

The foundation of all Taoists practices is learning to cultivate virtue energy. Negative emotions are draining. The Inner Smile Meditation teaches us to relax and smile, putting the body out of fight or flight and into relax and enjoy mode, which is where healing can take place. Learning the connect with your organs and really feel them, feel their vibrations, colours, sounds and associations puts you back in control.

Learning how to use the sounds teaches you to deal with unwanted emotions in daily life. The sounds used in the meditation are at the right frequency to vibrate the organs and allow toxic emotions to be eliminated.

You can use these sounds at any point to transform any unwanted emotions, such as fear, worry, sadness and anger, as well as to regulate breath and heartbeat. Anger doesn’t need to be repressed, it can be transformed and become a fuel.

Each Element has a different dynamic, vibration, energy and flow. When you learn to understand this flow within your body you can start to work with the energy in the same way that an acupuncturist works with needles.

The sounds correspond to an element and it’s associated organs.

Lungs: ssssssss

Kidneys: ccchhhhoooo (like chew, or a wave)

Liver: sssshhhhh

Heart: hawwwww (like hawthorn)

Spleen: whhhoooo (guttaral, like a coffee machine, blowing the worries out of your stomach)

Modern Psychology, EMDR and Taoism

Taoists have been using eye scanning movements for thousands of years (shutting the eyes and repeatedly moving the eyes from left to right or in anti-clockwise circles).

This is what happens in REM sleep and reprogrammes the amygdala to remove attachments to unhelpful thoughts, emotions or memories. This is now being used by modern psychologists to treat PTSD.

1. First bring your attention to your lungs.

Hold your hands over the lung area. Smile into your lungs and radiate a pure white light into your lungs. Feel the pure light filling your lungs, as your aura fills with a white light. Now check for any toxic emotions that may be stuck there. These may show up as dark patches on your white lungs. Shut your eyes and look into your lungs, scanning from left to right, backwards and forwards 21 times with your eyes, checking for any toxic emotions that might be harming you. Look for any grief, sadness, or feelings of loss or depression, which may be showing as dark patches on your pure white lungs. Now brings your hands together, raise them above your head opening up the lung area and meridians and make the sound ssssssss, allowing those toxic emotions to release. Lower your hands and bring them to your knees, channeling the unhelpful energy into the earth where it can be transformed. Rock on your tail bone to help move the chi. Bring your hands back to your lungs, emitting a pure white light into your lungs and allowing them to heal and let go. Now again raise your arms and open your lungs to release the toxic emotions with the sound ssssssss. Lower your arms again to your knees to channel the energy into the earth. Come back to your lungs and feel them glowing with a pure white light, allowing the virtues of courage, right thinking and sincerity to fill them with their radiance. Now once more raise your arms to make the sound ssssssss, and bring your hands back down to your lung area. Now, check in the front of your brain for the file where you hold the lung memories, and take out any folders holding memories of toxic emotions and delete them by scanning backwards and forwards with your eyes. Use your hand to spiral anticlockwise around the brain, this movement will help to release the memories.

2. Next bring your attention to your kidneys.

Arch your lumbar and put your hands over the kidney area, and connect with them. Smile into your kidneys and radiate a clear blue light into your kidneys. Feel the clear light filling your kidneys, as your aura fills with a blue light. Now check for any toxic emotions that may be stuck there. These may show up as dark patches on the blue aura. Shut your eyes and look into your kidneys, scanning from left to right, backwards and forwards 21 times with your eyes, checking for any toxic emotions that might be harming you. Look for any fear or traumas, which may be showing up as dark patches. Now brings your knees together, lower your hands and put them together in front of your knees, tiptoeing on your toes to open the kidney meridian while arching the lumbar area. Make the sound ccchhhhoooooo, allowing those toxic emotions to release. Relax and separate your legs, channeling the unhelpful energy into the earth where it can be transformed. Rock on your tail bone to help move the chi. Bring your hands back to your kidneys, emitting a clear blue light into your kidneys and allowing them to heal and let go. Now again lean forward to open your kidneys to release the toxic emotions with the sound ccchhhhoooooo. Come back to sitting again with your hands on your knees to channel the energy into the earth. Come back to your kidneys and feel them glowing with a clear blue light, allowing the virtues and gifts of peacefulness, calmness and stillness to fill them with their radiance. Now once more lean forward to make the sound ccchhhhoooooo, and bring your hands back up to your kidneys and rub them to free the energy. Now, check in the front of your brain for the file where you hold the kidney memories, and take out any folders holding memories of toxic emotions and delete them by scanning backwards and forwards with your eyes. Use your hand to spiral anticlockwise around the brain, this movement will help to release the memories.

3. Now bring your attention to your liver.

Hold your hands over the liver area. Smile into your liver and radiate a beautiful green light into your liver. Feel the beautiful light filling your lungs, as your aura fills with a green light. Now check for any toxic emotions that may be stuck there. These may show up as dark patches on your green liver aura. Shut your eyes and look into your liver, scanning from left to right, backwards and forwards 21 times with your eyes, checking for any toxic emotions that might be harming you. Look for any anger, frustration or jealousy, which may be showing as dark patches on your green liver aura. Now brings your hands together, raise them above your head leaning out to the left, opening up the liver area and meridians and make the sound ssshhhhhh, allowing those toxic emotions to release. Lower your hands and bring them to your knees, channeling the unhelpful energy into the earth where it can be transformed. Rock on your tail bone to help move the chi. Bring your hands back to your liver, emitting a beautiful green light into your liver, allowing it to heal and let go. Now again raise your arms and open your liver to release the toxic emotions with the sound ssshhhhhh. Lower your arms again to your knees to channel the energy into the earth. Come back to your liver and feel it glowing with a beautiful green light, allowing the virtues and gifts of benevolence, generosity and forgiveness to fill them with their radiance. Now once more raise your arms to make the sound ssshhhhhh, and bring your hands back down to your liver area. Now, check in the front of your brain for the file where you hold the liver memories, and take out any folders holding memories of toxic emotions and delete them by scanning backwards and forwards with your eyes. Use your hand to spiral anticlockwise around the brain, this movement will help to release the memories.

4. Now bring your attention to your heart.

Hold your hands over the heart area. Smile into your heart and radiate a warm red light into your heart. Feel the beautiful light filling your heart, as your aura fills with a red light. Now check for any toxic emotions that may be stuck there. These may show up as dark patches on your red heart aura. Shut your eyes and look into your heart, scanning from left to right, backwards and forwards 21 times with your eyes, checking for any toxic emotions that might be harming you. Look for any hatred, cruelty or impatience, which may be showing as dark patches on your red heart aura. Now brings your hands together, raise them above your head leaning out to the right, opening up the heart area and meridians and make the sound hhhaaaawwwww, allowing those toxic emotions to release. Lower your hands and bring them to your knees, channeling the unhelpful energy into the earth where it can be transformed. Rock on your tail bone to help move the chi. Bring your hands back to your heart, emitting a warm red light into your heart, allowing it to heal and let go. Now again raise your arms and open your heart to release the toxic emotions with the sound hhhaaaawwwww. Lower your arms again to your knees to channel the energy into the earth. Come back to your heart and feel it glowing with a warm red light, allowing the virtues and gifts of love, joy and happiness to fill them with their radiance. Now once more raise your arms to make the sound hhhaaaawwwww, and bring your hands back down to your heart area. Now, check in the front of your brain for the file where you hold the heart memories, and take out any folders holding memories of toxic emotions and delete them by scanning backwards and forwards with your eyes. Use your hand to spiral anticlockwise around the brain, this movement will help to release the memories.

5. Now bring your attention to your spleen.

Hold your hands over the spleen area. Smile into your spleen and radiate a bright yellow light into your spleen. Feel the beautiful light filling your spleen, as your aura fills with a yellow light. Now check for any toxic emotions that may be stuck there. These may show up as dark patches on your yellow spleen aura. Shut your eyes and look into your spleen, scanning from left to right, backwards and forwards 21 times with your eyes, checking for any toxic emotions that might be harming you. Look for any worry, anxiety or mistrust, which may be showing as dark patches on your yellow spleen aura. Now bend forward and push into your spleen area with your hands, making the sound wwwhhhhoooooo, allowing those toxic emotions to release. Lower your hands and bring them to your knees, channeling the unhelpful energy into the earth where it can be transformed. Rock on your tail bone to help move the chi. Bring your hands back to your spleen, emitting a bright yellow light into your spleen, allowing it to heal and let go. Bend forward again, massaging the spleen to release the toxic emotions with the sound wwwhhhhoooooo. Sit up again and place your hands on your knees to channel the energy into the earth. Come back to your spleen and feel it glowing with a bright yellow light, allowing the virtues and gifts of trust, openness and fairness to fill them with their radiance. Now once more lean forward to make the sound wwwhhhhoooooo, and bring your hands back to the spleen area. Now, check in the front of your brain for the file where you hold the spleen memories, and take out any folders holding memories of toxic emotions and delete them by scanning backwards and forwards with your eyes. Use your hand to spiral anticlockwise around the brain, this movement will help to release the memories.

6. Now lean back on your chair with your legs straight out in front of you, so your body is in a straight line.

The triple heater is an energetic function relating to temperature and energy regulation in the body and we will use it’s sound to regulate the energy in our bodies, moving warm energy from the upper body into the lower body, where energy is best stored. Raise your hands about your head and lower them slowly, emitting the sound heeeeeee as you do so, to bring warm energy down to the lower tan tien and the legs and feet.
